On Our Way
We boarded our 14.5-hour United flight and honestly just excited to be on our way, Ready or not, we are coming!
Feeling relatively ok as we arrived in Chengdu, a first time in China for each of us. Quite funny really. Our phones would not connect to the internet, regardless of a WiFi connection, possibly due to a restricted Chinese policy? Therefore, as we headed to the ATM to withdraw some money for a taxi into the city (location of our hotel), we had no clue as to what we were withdrawing. Interesting how difficult it is to navigate a new city with no language understanding. Issues like hotel confusion and currency conversion proved tough, but thanks to really kind Chinese, we figured it out. A 30-minute taxi ride brought us into the city center, which was fascinating and robust. So many lit-up buildings and vibrant colors. We're so glad that we ended up in the city despite the short time we had there. Our hotel was gorgeous and we were on the top floor with amazing views. We took a walk around and explored a bit. The air quality here is our only complaint, it truly makes the eyes burn.
Not more than a couple of hours of sleep before we were heading to the airport at 6 a.m. We hung out in the airport lounge and ate a ton of yummy food: tofu, lotus root, cucumbers in sesame garlic oil, breads, coffee, etc. As we write this, we're circling Tibet waiting for a weather window to land in Kathmandu!
